Western United States

Most of our trips have been to the western part of the United States, concentrating on national parks in that region.  The pictures below provide an overview of the beautiful scenery in the West.   Wyoming and Alaska have been visited more times than any other.  The pictures from those states are on separate links.  When you click on a picture, you will see an enlarged photo and arrows at each side to advance through the images; however, the captions will not be visible in the slideshow.

Arizona

In 2013, a road trip to the western US took us through Arizona.  Early in the trip we visited the Grand Canyon and Petrified Forest National Parks.  We passed through Arizona again on our way home.  The Apache Trail through Superstition Mountains was a memorable adventure.

California

Yosemite was at the top of our list on our road trip in 2013.  It is a beautiful place with many picturesque viewpoints with plenty of people there to see them.  Death Valley was not as crowded and just as scenic in its unique way.  In 2017, visited Death Valley again as we passed through on our way from California to Las Vegas.

Colorado

Colorado is another of our favorite places to visit.  Jeeping on mountain trails, snowmobiling, and seeing the sights has taken us back to Colorado many times.  It is a beautiful state.

Idaho

We traveled through Idaho on our road trip in 2017.   We stopped overnight in in Twin Falls, Idaho, and spent the late afternoon exploring the area.   We knew about the Snake River, but had the desk clerk at the hotel not told us about Shoshone Falls we would have missed it.  I'm so glad he did.   It was an incredible sight!

Montana

In 2010, we traveled through Montana in late June as when returning from Alaska.  The road over the pass in Glacier National Park was still blocked by snow, but what we did see was beautiful.   In 2013, we visited Montana again when the park was open.  Montana is a beautiful state with wide-open spaces and beautiful mountain scenery.

Nevada

Most of our trips to Nevada have been to Las Vegas which isn't all that picturesque, but other areas of Nevada are much more scenic.

New Mexico

In 2013, we stopped at White Sands National Park on our way to Washington State.  We visited the Capulin Volcano National Monument many years ago, but didn't take this picture until 2022 on a trip to Colorado.

Oregon

In 2013, we visited Crater Lake National Park during winter, and it was stunningly blanketed in snow. When we came back in June, the lake was shrouded in fog, yet we managed to capture the image displayed. In 2017, while driving along the Oregon coast on our way back from Washington State, we once again met with fog, but succeeded in snapping a few photos.

Utah

Utah is a state with an abundance of sights to see, including several national parks and the expansive Great Salt Lake. To fully experience each park, one would need to dedicate several days.

Washington

We have visited Washington State twice, and both visits were delightful. Olympic National Park is expansive, offering a wealth of exploration opportunities.  Although we primarily drove through Mount Rainier National Park, the vistas were breathtaking. Moreover, the lavender farms in the northern part of the state are not only visually stunning but also aromatic.
