Germany
Warnemünde, Germany — Steam Trains and Seaside Stops

Most passengers headed by train to Berlin for the one day in Germany, but having been there before, a less demanding excursion was chosen. It began with a motorcoach ride to Rostock, followed by a regional train toward Bad Doberan. That leg of the journey stood out for how incredibly smooth and quiet the electric train was.

The group visited Minster Abbey in Bad Doberan, where the guide shared its long history. First dedicated in 1368, the abbey has stood for centuries and came through World War II with little damage. Inside, the soaring arches and patterned brickwork create a space that’s simply magnificent — the kind of place that leaves you speechless.

Next came another train the Molli Steam Train to Kühlungsborn. This narrow‑gauge, steam‑powered line is a true throwback, chugging through quiet streets and tree‑lined avenues for a relaxed, scenic ride. In the seaside town of Kühlungsborn, the group enjoyed coffee and cake before exploring the area. A walk along the beach was peaceful and invigorating, with air that felt refreshingly cool especially compared to the heat back in Texas.

Late that evening, guests returning from a long day in Berlin spilled from the train and made their way toward the Viking Saturn. From the balcony, we watched as the crew greeted them with song and hard cider. Watching that was a nice way to end the day.
